1.  All Around The Swamp

The Pteranodon's wings went

Flap, flap, flap,

The pteranodon's wings went

The Tyrannosaurus Rex went grr, grr, grr;

2. Five Enormous Dinosaurs

Five enormous dinosaurs letting out a roar.

One went away and then there were four.

Four enourmous dinosaurs munching on a tree.

One went away and then there were three.

Three enormous dinosaurs didn't know what to do.

4. Ferocious Dinosaurs

Five ferocious dinosaurs playing in the swamp, eating yummy plants,

CHOMP, CHOMP, CHOMP

Along came a carnivore as LOUD as can be GULP!

4, 3, 2, 1

No ferocious dinosaurs, nothing left to eat, next time let’s try a different treat.

5. One Friendly Dinosaur

One friendly dinosaur wanted to play peek-a-boo.

She found another and then there were two.

Two friendly dinosaurs looked behind a tree.

They found another and then there were three.

Three friendly dinosaurs went to find some more.

They found another and then there were four.

Four friendly dinosaurs in the water they did dive.

They found another and then there were five.

Five friendly dinosaurs played in the sun.

They all ran to hide; now there are none.

 

Crafts

1.  Feathery Dinos

Find a copy of a picture of a Syntarsus or Coelophysis, Have the children cover the dinosaur with white glue and then add rice to make it look like feathers on the dinosaur.

2. Spiky Dinos

Find a copy of a picture of a Stegasaurus. Add toothpick to where the spikes are on the dinosaur.Break the toothpick if needed to make them fit.

3. Dinosaur Prints

Have the children dip dinosaurs in paint to make footprints.

4.  Clay Dinos

Make clay and then use dinosaur cookie cutters to make a dinosaur pattern.  Bake and then paint.

5.  Dino Skeleton

Use a black or dark blue piece of construction paper for each child. Trace a dinosaur outline onto the paper with chalk.  

Spray with a little hairspray to set the chalk.use pasta shapes that are available to fillin the dinosaur pattern. (macaroni, rigatoni, spaghetti, etc.)

6. Shoeasaurus

The teacher traces around the child's shoe onto a piece of construction paper then the child can glue on spikes, a tail, legs and feet etc...using scraps of paper and/or other art materials.

7.  Dino's

If they were a dino what color would they be? We paint our dinos , and have some very pretty dinos pink, red, poke-a-dots. You name it.

8. Circle-O-Saurus 

I cut several sizes of circles and let the kids make dinosaurs out of circles. They really turned out cute, and the kids had fun with it.

9.  Creating our own dinosaurs

 I give each child a cutout of a dinosaur and I have a bunch of different collage material: cotton, glitter, tissue paper, sand etc. Then they pick one of these items and glue them on their: cotton-saurus, tissue-saurus, sand-a-saurus (well you get the picture) the kids love it and it is a great bulletin board display as well!

10.  Cerealsaurus

Cut out a several dino shapes out of construction paper. Glue the dino patterns onto a large peice of butcher paper.  Using cereal let the children glue it onto the dino's, to make a cerealsauras. It's really cute and makes for an interesting bulletin board.

 

Circle Activities

1.  Who am I? - Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Brontosaurus, Pteranodon

2. Dinosaur Characteristics- Giving a few characteristics of each of the five dinosaurs

3.  Matching- Matching the plastic dinosaurs to our felt dinosaurs.

4.  Can you find my mommy? - Matching dinosaur mom/dad with their babies.

5.  Introducing Dinosaurs- Discussing dinosaurs and their extinction.

6.  How Many?  - How many dinosaurs are in each family?  We used plastic dinosaur to match and count how many were in each family.

7.  Dinosaur Seriation- Putting dinosaurs from smallest to largest

8. Dinosaur Graph- Make two categories on a piece of butcher paper. One that says Meat-eaters the other says Plant-eaters.  Make the five dinosaurs (Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Brontosaurus, Pteranodon) and place each of them in their appropriate category.

9.  Dinosaur Hokey Pokey – Tyrannosaurs- Sharp Teeth (teeth),

Stegosaurus-Spikes (back), Triceratops- 3 Horns (head), Pteranodon - Wings (flap arms), Brontosaurus- Long Neck (neck)

10How Big Was That Dinosaur? - Find out the length of each of the five dinosaurs. (Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Brontosaurus Pteranodon)  Using masking tape, tape the length on the floor.  Have each child lie down beside the masking tape to see how tall they are compared to the dinosaur.  Write down on masking tape where each child is.

 

Stories

1.  Joe and Betsy the Dinosaur

Joe and Betsy the dinosaur are ready for a fun filled day in the snow.  But as soon as they go out… KERPLUNK! CRASH! BANG!  Betsy slides down the hill and crashes right through the ice, her big feet smash the steps of the lions den, and her sneeze blows the chimney off the bears house. Poor Betsy!  She too big for her own good-or is she? 

2.  The Horned dinosaur (Triceratops)

The story is about the triceratops dinosaur. It explains how they lived, and other characteristics of the triceratops.

3.  Dinosaur Binkit

Dinosaur is getting ready for bed but can’t find his binkit.  He finally finds his binkit and fall a sleep.  It’s a touch and feel book with flaps.

4.  March of the Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs hurrying, crashing, roaring. Some of them tiny, some gigantic.  March through this counting book from numbers 1-12 by counting these incredible creatures. Lift the flap at the end for a dinosaur surprise.  It includes dinosaur names, how to say them, a timeline and an information spread.

5.  Dinosaurs BIG and small

Everybody knows that some dinosaurs were BIG! How big! Seismosaurus was longer than four school buses parked end to end.  Brachiosaurus weighed as much as sixteen elephants.  But not all dinosaurs were big.  Coelophysis probably didn’t weigh any more than you.  Compsognathus was so small you could carry one in your arms.  And all dinosaurs even the ones who grew up to be gigantic began life as tiny babies.  Find out how big and just how small dinosaurs were.

6.  How do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight

Here is a playful peek into the homes of dinosaur children and their parents at bedtime. 

7.  Danny and the Dinosaur

One day Danny goes to the museum where he sees a dinosaur.  “I’m sorry they are not real,” says Danny.  “It would be nice to play with a dinosaur.”  Just then a voice says, “And I think it would be nice to play with you!”

8.  The Missing Dinosaur Bone

The Berenstain bears are out to look for the missing bone of the dinosaur skeleton before the big show.  They have a hard time finding the missing bone when the museum is just about to open for the showing of the dinosaur skeleton.  They find it outside buried in the ground.  Find out who could of hide it there.

9.  King of the Dinosaurs (Tyrannosaurus Rex)

The story is about the Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur. It explains how they lived, and other characteristics of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

10.  The Day of the Dinosaur

A special kind of beast lived very long ago. It’s different forms and names are very good to know.
