Themes August 2004 - Nursery Rhymes

Songs

1.  Mary had a little lamb

Mary had a little lamb,

Little lamb, little lamb,

Mary had a little lamb,

Its fleece was white as snow

And everywhere that Mary went,

Mary went, Mary went,

Everywhere that Mary went

The lamb was sure to go

It followed her to school one day

School one day, school one day

It followed her to school one day

Which was against the rules.

It made the children laugh and play,

Laugh and play, laugh and play,

It made the children laugh and play

To see a lamb at school

And so the teacher turned it out,

Turned it out, turned it out,

And so the teacher turned it out,

But still it lingered near

And waited patiently about,

Patiently about, patiently about,

And waited patiently about

Till Mary did appear

"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"

Love Mary so? Love Mary so?

"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"

The eager children cry

"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."

Loves the lamb, you know, loves the lamb, you know

"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."

The teacher did reply

Humpty dumpty sat on a wall

Humpty dumpty had a great fall

All the King's horses

And all the King's men

Couldn't put Humpty together again

3.  Eensy Weensy  Spider

The eensy weensy spider

Crawled up the water spout

Down came the rain

And washed the spider out

Out came the sun

And dried up all the rain

And the eensy weensy spider

Crawled up the spout again.

4.  Hey Diddle Diddle the Cat and Fiddle

Hey diddle diddle,

The cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the moon,

The little dog laughed to see such sport,

And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Crafts

1. The Little Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe

I cut out a huge shape of a shoe and I let the kids decorate it with paint and all kinds of stuff. When it was finished I let them paste a picture of themselves on it.

2. Humpty Dumpty

Cut out an oval shape for the body. Add googly eyes, nose and mouth. Cut out arms and legs and glue onto body. Cut out a brown rectangle to represent the wall. Glue Humpty Dumpty on the top of the wall.

3. Bo Peep and Her Sheep Mobile

Have the children each make a sheep by cutting out a sheep pattern and gluing on cotton balls and googly eyes. The Teacher can color a template of Bo Peep. Use a paper towel roll and paint or cover with construction paper and decorate with sparkles. Attach all pieces with string to the paper towel roll. Hang when you’re done.

4. Hickory Dickory Dock

Have the children paint a paper plate. The teacher can make a clock pattern with numbers and the children glue the clock pattern onto the middle of the painted paper plate. Make a mouse using two grey pompoms and glue them together. Add two eyes and a string to attach the mouse to the clock.

5. Nursery Rhyme book

Pick nursery rhymes from www.enchantedlearning.com  and have children color pictures and make it into a book with cover page.
